In order to ensure the safety of all entrants to the Bowland Challenge it is imperative that all teams and individuals are appropriately equipped. It is the responsibility of each team leader and team members to ensure that all items are carried. Each team member must wear or carry all individual mandatory items. Team items may be packed and carried by any team member(s). Teams will be subject to random spot-checks throughout the event where a specificed item will be requested to be shown. Failure to comply will lead to the deduction of 15 points per infringement.

Individual Equipment 

  • Walking boots that provide ankle support or fell-running shoes (not trainers).
  • Trousers (non-denim)
  • Long sleeved Fleece
  • Breathable waterproof jacket and trousers
  • Rucksack
  • Lunch rations
  • Emergency rations
  • Water or soft drink (min 1 litre)
  • Hat and Gloves
  • Torch (with spares batteries & bulb)
  • Team identification tag (supplied)
  • Whistle
  • Survival bag or space blanket
  • Pencil and paper

Team Equipment

  • Map (this is provided by the organisers)
  • Map Case
  • First aid kits (minimum 2 per team)
  • Compass (minimum 2 per team)
  • Tape measure. (minimum 2 metre length)
Camping Equipment (this does not need to be carried during the event)
  • Tents
  • Sleeping bags
  • Sleeping mats
  • Plates, bowls, mugs and cutlery
